Chocolate Bug Bar??

Cricket protein bars. Anyone want one?

I’ve had and seen copious types of protein bars and shakes.

In stores it’s not unusual to find whey protein, beef, soy, egg, pea, and even bone protein… but bug protein?

Ingredients.

         Dates.

         Cricket powder.

         Raisins.

         Cashews.

         Cocoa.

         Chia seeds.

         Himalayan salt.

Some of the nutrition facts are fascinating too.

         200 Calories

         11g Protein

5g Dietary Fiber (20% Daily Value)

         19g Total Sugars.

6g Total Fat (9% Daily Value)

I opened the package and sniffed the bar…  It smelt like chocolate and dates, a good sign. It didn’t look that good. Before the audience of my family, I took my first bite… and then a hesitant second. Most of my siblings tried it too and we enjoyed it together.

So, what did it taste like?

Best description: Like old, crumbly, dense, and ever-so-slightly musky chocolate cake.

Not the best protein bar ever made, but considering the contents, it wasn’t all that bad!

By the way, in Levitical law, crickets are good to go!

(Lev 11:22) Of them you may eat: the locust of any kind, the bald locust of any kind, the cricket of any kind, and the grasshopper of any kind.

God made the Levitical laws to benefit the Israelites.

In fact, all of God’s laws are made for our good—always have been and always will be.

Do you ever forget this? Do you ever think that our Heavenly Father is a killjoy who wants us to have no fun?

But really, that’s not a clear look at the whole picture.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Eph 2:4-7

It’s incredible how many times those few verses say that God did something for us! God, Creator of Everything, King of the Universe, ‘loved us’, ‘made us’, ‘raised us’, ‘seated us’, and shows us his immeasurable riches of grace in kindness!

I know I didn’t do anything to deserve anything from the Freedom One!

Out of pure gratitude, choose to obey God because whether you eat crickets or you don’t, his way is higher than our way!
