First food in Pakistan! (and a funny story)

On our first day in Pakistan, my family snoozed straight through breakfast. Late in the afternoon, we slipped upstairs to our hotel restaurant and soon we were seated before a spread of piping hot Pakistani food. On the table, there was biryani, karahi, chutney and yogurt, naan, and cans of Coca-Cola with straws. I loved every bite.

The next day, we had our first breakfast in the hotel. Our primary options (aside from the continental menu) were dishes of chickpeas (called Lahori chanay) and another of beef and chilis (known as aloo keema), which one would schlep up with quarters of a buttery paratha. This was served with freshly-made orange and carrot juice and a coffee or chai.

As far as I see, there is no way to overstate how good this type of breakfast is.

The roof provided a great view and an amazing laugh when, looking down at a man on the street, my sister declared that he had no idea that someone was watching him. At that moment, however, and much to her shock, the man glanced up and gave her a wave.

I’m not sure she was as amused as I was.

Indy.
