Red spider lilies.

I first learned about spider lilies while in Thailand. I was writing a scene for my Bloodlines of Fire, and dropped a search to find a type of flower that would symbolize fire.

I dropped a search and they emerged (that was an NF nod for all of you who didn’t catch it). This is called a red spider lily and it fit what I was looking for perfectly. In the end, however, I dropped the scene involving the flowers, and so there are no spider lilies in the book. The good thing was that I totally recognized these flowers as soon as I saw them popping up in the late summer here in Texas.

The fun thing about spider lilies is that their genus name, Hymenocallis means something cool in Greek. I explored that, and white spider lilies further in this post.
