The parable of the frog

I’ve never been particularly fond of the story of the frog who was boiled.

I’m sure you’ve heard this example: a frog who is thrown into boiling water jumps right out (kudos for his reflexes—I don’t know if frogs appreciate kudos) but the frog who is put in room temperature water that is brought to boiling will stay in the water.

Let me tell you something that I consider an insight. Be forewarned—it is not a happy insight.

I’m afraid to say that that frog probably enjoyed the gradual heat.

Do you think he didn’t notice? No. Surely he did. Frogs are very sensitive to the temperature of water.

What other explanation is there, other than that he likes the heat?

It’s like sin. No one sins accidentally. They sin because they like it.

And soon the frog was boiled. Frog soup—bon appétit.

Do you want some?

No. You don’t.

So don’t become that.

Acknowledge that you take pleasure in sin and beg that God takes it away from you. He will do it. He did it for me. That’s what being saved is about.
