Am I an ocean person or a mountain person?
I’ve always heard people talking about being a beach person or being a mountain person.
I always thought I’d be an ocean person.
Between seeing the beach in New Zealand and driving up the mountains in Pakistan, I was surprised to learn that my guess was wrong.
There’s something about being high. Safe. Away from change and a watery grave.
I love the mist, thick ferns, fresh and light air, the view of distant peaks. I firmly believe you can be properly and happily lonely on the mountains.
That’s my take on the matter.
K2, a Pakistani mountain is the world’s second tallest. It’s supposed to be harder to climb than Mount Everest (though I don’t think that I’ll try either).
Harrowing mountain roads were made all the more exciting by the limited visibility caused by the rain.
At the tip top of one of these mountains, there is a McDonald’s where we had lunch. We sat outside so that we could see the white-capped mountains in the distance. It was glorious. And very cold.
Are you an ocean person or a mountain person?
Indy.
