7 Christmas Gift Ideas for Writers in 2024
Every artist loves knowing that you see their creativity. One of the best ways of showing that you care is with writerly gifts like these!
Scrivener (for writing long documents) or Atticus (for formatting). Software may not be for every writer, but most bookwriters need to try them out sooner or later.
Adorning the Dark. Written by the award-winning singer-songwriter Andrew Peterson, this book has changed my writing life. It’s full of real advice about creativity from a Christian point of view. What else can be said? Peterson is a genius. You can’t go wrong with a book!
Coffee or chocolate. Writing can really do a number for your appetite. Pounding out a story with a pile of chocolate beside you is conducive to next-caliber writing.
Random paper and pens. A writer is constantly in need of paper and something to write with because living in a whirlwind of ideas is tough. We’re not picky. If you gave me a ream of paper and a box of pencils, I’d be delighted.
Take the writer on an adventure. Stockpiling experiences to write from is critical for a writer. I love trying new things because I know that everything I’ve experienced gives me more to say. It doesn’t have to be expensive or crazy; writers value getting into the minds of people just doing what they love. If it were me, I would take a writer friend foraging so that they could experience finding plants and harvesting wild roots and greens (but more importantly, they could see that some people get giddy over the fact that elderberry has pinnate leaves).
A good external keyboard. I refuse to write without this STREAM Cherry keyboard. I’ve carried it around the world with me and if that’s not love, I don’t know what is. For the price, this tool is invaluable. This has the best value of anything on this list.
A story or fan-fiction. Writers know how hard it is to write, so they value hand-written stories (at least, the sensitive writers do). In the past, I have received fan-fiction stories for my own books, which is one step better than a normal story (and generally easier for the gifter).
