Trail Running in New Zealand.
Happy June!
Today I thought it would be fun to share a handful of pictures of the trails where I run in Auckland. Come along with me as I show you the part of New Zealand that I will never forget.
The first part of the trail heads through a forest, where I found the glowworms featured in this post.
It’s about 2 miles and lots of elevation to the place where the blue arrow points!
I found hordes of wild fennel plants. The mature stalks bear seeds that are sweetly amazing! After carefully identifying the plant, I always enjoyed plucking a couple seeds to chew on while running.
There are some browned fennel stalks on the edge of the cliff there.
Off the trails, the beaches are deserted. I personally don’t like all the chaos of waves crashing, but ran the shore a couple times anyway. It was worth trying, but not my thing.
I’ve seen a duet of parrots, plenty of kingfishers, a rat, and rabbits, and stopped to photograph nocturnal hedgehogs. They are unbelievably cute (and now I want one as a pet)!
I was taking a picture of the hedgehog when a man that I didn’t see appeared on the trail and asked if I was okay, which made me jump. I photographed the exact moment perfectly.
The trail is up, down, up, down all the way. Intimidating at first, but doable.
Summiting the largest hill to witness the sunset was thoroughly worthwhile.
One of David’s Psalms says this about nature:
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world….
Psalm 19:1-4
We see the power of God through the world He made!
